Children aged 5-12 can fly alone on Indian airlines with the Unaccompanied Minor (UMNR) service. The airline assigns staff to escort them from gate to gate.
Age Rules
- 👶 Under 5: Cannot fly alone on any airline
- 🧒 5-12 years: Must use UMNR service (mandatory)
- 🧑 12-18 years: Can fly alone without UMNR (but service available on request)
How It Works
- 📞 Book by phone: UMNR cannot be booked online — call the airline directly
- 📋 Fill forms: Parent/guardian details, receiver details, emergency contacts
- 🏢 At airport: Parent escorts child to airline counter, staff takes over
- ✈️ During flight: Cabin crew monitors the child throughout
- 🤝 At destination: Airline staff hands child to the designated receiver (ID required)
Fees
- 💰 IndiGo: ₹3,000-₹4,500 per flight (on top of ticket)
- 💰 Air India: ₹3,000-₹5,000 depending on route
- ⚠️ Direct flights only: Most airlines don't allow UMNR on connecting flights
