- Booking confirmation: PNR number (saved in phone or printed)
- Boarding pass: Do web check-in 48 hours before and save the boarding pass to your phone
- Charger and power bank: Power banks must be in carry-on (NOT checked bag)
Timing
- Domestic flights: Reach airport 2 hours before departure
- International flights: Reach 3 hours before departure
- First-time tip: Add 30 minutes extra for unfamiliarity
Step-by-Step Airport Process
Step 1: Enter the Terminal
Show your booking confirmation/boarding pass + photo ID at the terminal entry. CISF security will check and let you in. Only passengers with valid tickets can enter.
Step 2: Check-in Counter (if needed)
If you've already done web check-in AND have no checked baggage → skip directly to security. If you have checked bags → go to the airline's check-in counter, drop your bag, and get your bag tag.
Step 3: Security Check
Show boarding pass + ID at the security entrance. Place your bags, electronics, and metal items on the conveyor belt. Walk through the metal detector. Collect your items. This takes 5-20 minutes.
- Remove from bag: Laptop, tablet, power bank, liquids pouch
- Remove from body: Belt, coins, keys, watch (if metal)
- Liquids: Max 100ml per bottle, all in a clear zip-lock bag
Step 4: Find Your Gate
After security, check the departure board for your flight's gate number. Walk to your gate. Gates are clearly numbered. Follow signs.
Step 5: Boarding
Boarding typically starts 30-40 minutes before departure. Listen for announcements. Show your boarding pass at the gate. Walk to the aircraft via a jet bridge or bus.
Step 6: On the Plane
- Find your seat (row number + letter, e.g., 14A = Row 14, Window)
- Store carry-on in the overhead bin or under the seat in front
- Fasten seatbelt
- Phone on airplane mode (WiFi can stay on if available)
- Watch the safety demo
Step 7: Landing & Exit
After landing, wait for the seatbelt sign to turn off. Collect your cabin bag. Follow signs to "Arrivals" or "Baggage Claim." If you have checked bags, wait at the belt for your luggage. Match the tag on your bag with the one on your boarding pass.
Common First-Timer Fears (Don't Worry!)
- "What if I miss my flight?" — Arrive 2 hours early and you'll be fine. Boarding closes 25 min before departure.
- "What if the plane shakes?" — That's turbulence. It's normal and safe. Keep seatbelt on.
- "What if my ears hurt?" — Chew gum or yawn during takeoff and landing. It equalizes pressure.
- "Can I use my phone?" — Yes, on airplane mode. WiFi available on select airlines.
- "Where's the toilet?" — At the front and back of the aircraft. Wait for seatbelt sign to be off.
Seat Guide: A, B, C, D, E, F
- A and F: Window seats
- B and E: Middle seats (avoid if possible)
